Life Insurance & Final Expense

Take care of family. Take care of the bill. No drama.

What it is

The plain-English version.

The vast majority of life insurance I write for my clients is what's called final expense — a small whole-life policy designed to cover funeral and burial costs, plus any final medical bills, without burdening the family.

Most of my clients are seniors whose kids are grown and whose debts are low. They don't need a half-million-dollar term policy. They need to make sure their family doesn't have to scramble for $10,000-$15,000 the week they're grieving.

There are also more traditional whole-life and term-life products available when the situation calls for them — supplementing existing employer coverage, providing for a special-needs adult child, or covering a remaining mortgage. We'll figure out what fits.

Who it's for

Probably you, if any of these sound familiar.

  • Seniors who want to make sure funeral expenses are covered without leaving the family to figure it out.
  • Folks whose existing life insurance from work is about to end at retirement.
  • Parents or grandparents of a special-needs adult who depends on them.
  • Anyone with debts that would survive them and burden a surviving spouse.
How I Help With It

In John’s own words.

We start with what you're actually trying to accomplish — not what some illustration software says you 'need'. Most often that conversation lands on a final-expense policy in the $10,000–$25,000 range.

I compare carriers for the same coverage amount and pick the one with the best price for your age and health. Underwriting questions are usually light for final expense.

When the time comes, I help your family file the claim. That's not always part of the deal with other agents — but it is with me.

FAQ

About Life Insurance

How much life insurance do I actually need at this point?
Probably less than you think. Most of my senior clients land somewhere between $10,000 and $25,000 — enough to cover funeral costs and final medical bills. If your situation is different, we'll talk through it.
Do I need a medical exam?
For most final-expense policies, no — just a short list of yes/no health questions. For larger whole-life or term-life policies, sometimes a brief exam is required. We'll know up front which is which.
Can my family use the payout for anything, or only for the funeral?
Anything. The death benefit is paid to your beneficiary as cash. They can use it for the funeral, final medical bills, or anything else. There's no requirement to spend it a specific way.
What if my health has changed recently?
Some policies are 'simplified issue' (a few questions) and some are 'guaranteed issue' (no questions, but smaller benefit amounts). If your health is a concern, there's still almost always a path. Let me run options.

No pressure. No quotas. I’ll listen, ask a few questions, and if I can help you I’ll tell you how. If I can’t, I’ll tell you that too.
